State, centre responsible for crisis: MPP

Noting with regret that several houses of both communities in conflict have been burnt down forcing thousands to take shelter in relief camps and many lives were lost in gunfights, Manipur People's Party (MPP) contended that the state and central governments are accountable for the loss of lives.
In a release, MPP said that the law and order in the state could be maintained and peace restored only when the SoO agreement with Kuki militants is revoked.
Actions should be taken up against SoO militants if ground rules are violated, it maintained.

Alleging that central security forces rushed into the state for controlling the situation are aiding Kuki militants in attacking Meitei people, MPP also alleged the state government of turning a blind eye in the matter.
Even though the prime agricultural season has arrived, farmers settling in the foothills could not tend to their paddy fields due to continuous threat and attacks, the MPP maintained and urged the government to flush out Kuki militants from the area and help the farmers focus on paddy plantation activities. It also suggested that minor irrigation department/ agriculture department provide water pump sets and fertilizer at free of cost to the farmers.
MPP also appealed to the leaders of the political parties and MPs to look into the issue seriously and bring up at the parliament.
