Imphal, July 01 2023:
The BJP State unit has claimed that AICC leader Rahul Gandhi insisted on going to relief camps set up at Moirang and Churachandpur on June 29 by road to create problems after colluding with Congress MLAs.
Notably, Rahul Gandhi was on a two day visit to Manipur from June 29 to 30 and met different people taking shelter at Moirang, Churachandpur and Imphal.
Addressing the media at Thambal Shanglen at Nityaipat Chuthek today, BJP State unit vice president Dr Usham Deben alleged that the visit of Rahul Gandhi to Churachandpur and Moirang was planned by Congress MLAs to disturb law and order situation.
Dr U Deben is the Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) .
Asking why Rahul Gandhi didn't cover Manipur under his Bharat Jodo Yatra unlike in other States, he asked whether the Congress party was trying to accuse the BJP of bad governance and law and order failure just to gain political mileage.
Claiming that the State Government arranged a chopper in advance after receiving information about the AICC leader's visit to Manipur, Dr Deben said that Rahul Gandhi, however, didn't take the chopper and headed to Moirang side by road without giving any information to the Government.
He further said that the vehicle arranged by the Government for Rahul Gandhi was only for him to traverse between Imphal Airport and the hotel he stayed at.
Dr Deben asked what benefits do the people of Manipur get from the visit of Rahul Gandhi to Manipur.
Why did the Congress party try to take the AICC leader to Moirang and Churachandpur by road even after knowing that the law and order situation in the areas were not conducive, Dr Deben asked.
Can the Congress party guarantee that there will be no problem when they go to Churachandpur by road, Dr Deben further asked.
The BJP leader went on to ask why Rahul Gandhi didn't meet the Chief Minister and share his suggestions if his visit was to restore peace.
Saying that time is not conducive to do politics in Manipur, Dr Deben said that the BJP condemns the 'drama' of the Congress party.
It was the Congress party who signed the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact with the Kuki militants, Dr Deben continued and claimed that the Kuki militants engaging in criminal activity is partly the fault of the grand old party as they didn't monitor the ground rules of the agreement properly.
