Imphal, July 01 2023:
All leaders and individuals should rise above politics and unite to save Manipur and her future, said Coordinating Committee of Clubs and Organisations (COCOCO) today.
In a statement, the apex body of the clubs and organisations said parties and individuals playing politics guided by their narrow interests has caused confusion among the people.
Playing narrow politics while the Meiteis' fate and the State's integrity are at stake is a headache for the people, it said.
COCOCO continued that the Government of India is wilfully ignoring the Manipur crisis and is not sincere in its efforts to bring normalcy and peace.
The Government of India sees all and knows all, but it lacks the will and sincerity to deal with the crisis.
Despite continued calls by the people to abrogate Suspension of Operation (SoO), the Government has remained adamant and not acted on it, said COCOCO.
Violence perpetrated by the Kuki militants under SoO had caused the unwanted conflict between the Meiteis and the Kukis.
It is undeniably clear that the Kuki militants have violated the ground rules of SoO by committing violence against civilians and their villages, it added.
COCOCO furthered that it is the responsibility of the Government of India to ensure that the Kuki militants follow the ground rules of the SoO pact.
Why was the pact signed, when the Government is clearly unable to enforce the ground rules of the agreement ? The present conflict is a result of the Government's failure to enforce the SoO ground rules, it said.
While accusing some Central forces including the Assam Rifles of aiding the Kuki militants, COCOCO asserted that the Government, instead of finding out the truth, is spewing hatred among the people through its appeasement efforts and unbalanced scales of justice.
When the people of the State are its citizens, the Government of India is unable to assist them as such.
The Government of India seems to have forgotten that the people of this State are its citizens, it said, accusing the Government of supporting the "illegal immigrant terrorists" .
The Meitei community, anywhere on the globe, has never acted against other communities.
Even as the community has continuously appealed for peace, time to defend "ourselves" has come.
People have lost faith in the Government of India that it can bring peace, it said.
If the Government of India really wants to bring peace in Manipur, it should act sincerely and curb all activities of narco-terrorism being carried out by the Kuki militants under the SoO pact and implement National Register of Citizens (NRC), said COCOCO.
