Imphal, February 03 2024: Thouna, an outlet and a brand of products made by displaced people in relief camps has been laun-ched today.

While the outlet has been opened at the Radiant Corporate office at Sangaiprou Ningthemkol, the Thouna brand includes a variety of products ranging from paper plates, paper bags to hand-loom and handicraft items.

The outlet, Thouna is part of Radiant Club and Resort, under the Radiant Group of Companies.

At the launch of Thouna today, social activist Dr Dhanabir Laishram lauded the Radiant Group of Companies for opening the outlet for products made by displaced people.

He said the opening of the outlet and giving a brand name to products will help sell goods more easily and help improve the economy of the displaced people living in different relief camps.

The current violent conflict that erupted on May 3, 2023 has burnt hundreds of homes and displaced more than 60,000 people, who are now staying at relief camps across several districts.

The displaced people at the relief camps are facing immense difficulties and they lack basic needs including food and clothes.

They have lost their livelihoods and are facing financial problems, said Dr Dhanabir Laishram.

The Thouna outlet and brand will help improve the economy of the displaced people.

Through the outlet, they will be able to sell their products more easily, he said.

Dr Dhanabir said the displaced people may be given a variety of skill training to improve their skills and open new trades for earning income.

Skill training program-mes, while adding quality to products, will give them livelihoods in the future when they go back and resettle at their villages, he added.

Radiant Group of Companies' chairman cum managing director, Nepram Romio said the Thouna outlet was opened with the aim to help the displaced people earn income.

To encourage the inmates of the relief camps to maintain quality, Thouna brand of products will include only selected items, he said.

The inmates will be given a variety of training on different trades.

The aim is to provide livelihood and make them self-reliant, he said.
