Imphal, December 28 2023:
The All Manipur Village Volunteer Force (AMVVF) and the people of Yaingangpokpi and adjacent villages have urged the State Government and security forces to stop the onslaught of Kuki militants at Meetei villages in Yaingang-pokpi areas and take up measures to improve the economy of those affected by the Kuki aggression.
Addressing the media at Yaingang-pokpi today, Longjam Inaobi, a local, said that the Kuki militants have been attacking Yai-ngangpokpi, Thamna-pokpi, Seijang, Sabungkhok, Shantikhongbal, Sanasabi and other Meetei villages which fall under Yaingang-pokpi police station regular- ly after the violence broke out in May.
Saying that the hostile campaign of the Kuki militants and their associates have made them restless, Inaobi added that Yaingangpokpi and its adjacent Meetei villages have been attacked more than 10 times by the Kukis this month (December) alone.
Security forces couldn't prevent the hostility of Kukis till today and this is disheartening, he said and added that there is no sign of peace in their areas.
Claiming that the security forces have been carrying search operations in Meetei villages mostly instead of cracking down on the armed Kuki miscreants, Inaobi expressed desire for the Government and security forces to enforce law and order in both hill and valley districts to restore normalcy.
AMVVF executive member Heikrujam Tompok said that the economic impacts of the protracted violence in Manipur is immense.
Saying that people in the rural areas have been affected severely by the violence, he urged the Government to take up certain measures to improve the living condition of people in interior villages and remote areas.
Tompok said that AMVVF has taken up some activities related to agriculture and allied sectors in about 12 villages.
