TWILIGHT drug treatment centre inaugurated

A drug treatment and rehabilitation centre ch'ened "TWILIGHT Drug De-Addiction cum Rehabilitation Centre" was inaugurated by RD&PR minister Y Khemchand at Taothong Ayungba under Lamsang AC of Imphal West on Wednesday.
The centre is run by Centre for Humanity's Betterment (CHuB), a state level registered NGO working for the welfare and development of the public in general and the marginalised and downtrodden section of the society in particular.
The inaugural function was attended by minister Khemchand and TWILIGHT Drug De- Addiction cum Rehabilitation Centre manager Ningombam Prabin Singh as chief guest and president respectively.
Community Network for Empowerment (CoNE) president RK Nalinikanta, Taothong Ayungba Meira Paibi Association member Promila Devi and Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) vice president Dipanjit Ningthoujam were present as guests of honour of the function.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Khemchand expressed disappointment that not enough has done to save the youths from falling prey to drugs mainly due to system failure.
Stating that we all are re sponsible for Manipur facing the drug menace, Khemchand pointed out the need for meira paibi groups, clubs, associations and NGOs working in the held of drugs to chalk out and implement effective strategies to tackle the drug issue.
There are around 6 to 7 lakhs youth population in the state out of which around 1.5 lakh are reported to be usingdrugs in one form or the other.
We need to treat this section of the population early or else there will be various unwanted and undesired situation in future.
Delivering the keynote address, CHuB secretary Pramod Ningombam, said that the state has been facing number of issues with the drugs problem being one of the core problems as youths and young adults including teenage girls becoming victims of drug abuse.
These youngsters need to be freed from the harmful effects of drugs as they are the future pillar of the society, he further stated.
While noting that some drug rehabilitation centres in the state are operating are profit oriented rather than considering welfare of the inmates, Pramod affirmed that TWILIGHT drug rehabilitation centre has been set up with the primary objective to bring back the youths to the mainstream and help them stay away from drugs.
The centre will provide homely environment to the drug users and serve as their second home, he assured.
"We are trying to promote unique treatment service and system at the centre where they (clients) feel at home.
Creating such kind of atmosphere will help the drug users to leave their habit and become assets of the society" .
He also sought support of the local meira paibi groups, clubs and people without whose support and cooperation, the initiative of CHuB for the welfare of the community will not be possible.
