Governor meets bankers, AMPWA, ex-MHRC member

HDFC Bank Limited state head of operations Sunil Nagpal, accompanied by Rajen Wahengbam, met with the Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Thursday and highlighted the bank's various initiatives under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
Sunil Nagpal shared details about the bank's annual blood donation drive, which, in 2023, achieved worldwide recognition by securing a Guinness World Record.
The largest blood donation drive involved 61,902 participants across 1,115 blood donation camps in 709 locations in India on December 6, 2023.Governor Anusuiya Uikey commended HDFC Bank's commitment to social responsibility and urged the bank to extend assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by violence.
She specifically suggested the initiation of training programmes and simplification of processes for loan recovery and delivery to support the IDPs.
In another engagement, a delegation of All Manipur Muslims (Meitei Pangal) Welfare Association (AMPWA), led by retired IAS AR Khan, along with Md Akhtar Hussain, Md Abdus Salam, Md Naziruddin, and Md Salaoddin Khan, donated Rs 50,000 to the Governor's Relief Fund.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Governor, advocating for a 4 per cent reservation of seats for Meitei Pangals in non-professional (general) courses in higher education.
They also requested the establishment of Model schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Meitei Pangal-dominated areas, and special Livelihood Mission Projects and skill development programmes for employment, particularly for women.
The delegation expressed concern over ongoing unrest in the state and pledged support to efforts to restore peace and harmony.
The Governor welcomed their commitment and urged all communities to come together to cooperate with the government in resolving the crisis.
She assured the delegation of support for the welfare of the community.
In a separate meeting, former member of Manipur Human Rights Commission Ng Nongyai, and four others briefed the Governor on the prevailing demographical imbalance in the state.
They submitted a memorandum urging the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to identify and repatriate foreigners/outsiders.
The team emphasised the need for a Population Policy to address abnormal population growth and restore balance.
The Governor assured the team of a permanent solution to the unrest, emphasising that restoring complete peace and normalcy is a priority.
She acknowledged government initiatives to identify illegal immigrants and pledged to address the issue once the ongoing crisis is resolved.
