Imphal, December 28 2023:
BJP Manipur Pradesh has asserted that the Congress party's Bharat Nyay Yatra which would start from Imphal on January 14 next year and conclude at Mumbai on March 20, 2024 would not be fruitful as it would not get people's support.
Speaking to media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office, Keishampat today, BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary K Saratkumar said that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge is ageing and Rahul Gandhi is no longer a youth.
Any yatra led by 54 year old Rahul Gandhi would be a big loss for the Congress party, Saratkumar said.
BJP won in whichever State Rahul Gandhi visited.
The Congress party is a sinking ship and it was testified by elections held in some States recently, he claimed.
The Congress party has less than 50 MPs in the Lok Sabha which has a total strength of 545 and there are just five Congress MLAs in the 60-Member Manipur Legislative Assembly, he said.
There is nothing people can expect from the Congress party and it will be completely uprooted in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, said the BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary.
Questioning if the Congress party did anything significant for Manipur when the party was in power, Saratkumar asserted that the Congress party will never be able to topple BJP.
Apart from taking up several welfare programmes for the poor and underprivileged, the BJP Government extended ILP to Manipur and AFSPA has been withdrawn from the jurisdictions of many police stations, he said.
He also condemned former Speaker Th Lokeshwar's allegation that the BJP's double-engine Government has been conspiring to wipe out the Meitei community.
Maintaining that the indigenous communities of Manipur have been living together as one, K Saratkumar remarked that Th Lokeshwar's attempt to misinterpret the war on drugs and the fight to protect future generations is rather unfortunate.
BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president N Nimbus said that the Congress party's Bharat Nyay Yatra would not get people's support.
