Assam Rifles pays homage to fallen heroes

Assam Rifles of Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), conducted solemn wreath laying ceremonies to honour two soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
A press statement issued by PRO IGAR (S) informed that Assam Rifles organised a wreath laying ceremony at Company Operating Base, Sendra in Bishnupur district on Wednesday.
The ceremony paid homage to Rifleman Huidrom Bijendro Singh, SC (Posthumous) of 7 Assam Rifles, who laid down his life during a counter-insurgency operation in Loktak Lake on December 27, 2005 .
Bijendro exhibited exceptional bravery during an exchange of fire with insurgents at Loktak Lake.
Moving towards the firing insurgents without concern for his personal safety, he sustained gunshot wounds and made the supreme sacrifice for the nation, the PRO recounted.
The company commander, during the wreath-laying ceremony, emphasised that the gallant actions of soldiers like the late rifleman have always been a motivating factor for the battalion to carry out relentless operations against anti-national elements.
The event was attended by all ranks of the company, the family of the martyr, and included a moment of remembrance.
The company commander interacted with the family over lunch, expressing gratitude for the soldier's outstanding service to the nation.
In another tribute event, Assam Rifles organised a solemn wreath laying ceremony in memory of rifleman/GD Khem Bahadur Thapa.
The brave soldier sacrificed his life while battling insurgents at Babupara on Dec 27, 1997 in Jiribam district.
The ceremony, led by the unit commandant, included a motivational speech to all ranks, narrating the heroic story of late rifleman.
A total of four officers, 17 junior commissioned officers, and 165 other ranks of the battalion paid tribute by laying wreaths and according Guard of Honour,
the statement added.
