Market 'off day' creates commotion at Nagamapal

A commotion broke out at Nagamapal today after a group of women forbade a trader from Ukhrul from selling veggies on account of Nongma Panba holiday (off day for Khwairamband market) .
All the women who created the scene were detained by a team of City police led by Officer in-charge S Guikan Thangal after the video clip of the incident went viral on social media.
Reportedly, a group of women snatched the veggies brought by the woman from Ukhrul in an auto-rickshaw.
The matter came to light after the victim shared her misery on social media, following which police and several organisations intervened.
It is said that the matter was resolved after convening a meeting in the presence of public leaders viz Forum for Restoration of Peace Manipur convenor Ashang Kasar, Taragi Cheisu chairman Khaidem Mani and representatives of Lukmai Sellup, Imphal Naga Forum, Uripok Apunba Nupi Lup and traders of Khwairamband Keithel.
Speaking to the media, Lukmai Sellup general secretary Asem Nirmala tendered an apology for the wrong done to the trader from Ukhrul on behalf of everyone.
Saying that they would ask the group of women to not take law into their hands again, she appealed to the victim to forgive the wrongdoers.
Manipur is a diverse State, she said and appealed to all Manipuris to not engage in any activity which can create misunderstanding among the fellow Manipuris.
Asang Kasar, on the other hand, said that the misunderstanding which emerged following the unfortunate incident at Nagamapal has been sorted out.
Appealing to all concerned to respect the law of the land, Asang Kasar maintained that enforcing law is the responsibility of police and other law enforcers.
Officer-in charge of City police Guikan Thangal said that they swung into action as soon as they came to know about the incident and resolved the misunderstanding.
