CME on "Virtopsy : A new phase in forensic autopsy" held

The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, RIMS, Imphal, today organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on "Virtopsy : A new phase in forensic autopsy" at Banting Hall, RIMS, Imphal.
The programme was attended by Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal; Prof Brogen Singh Akoijam, Dean (Academic), RIMS, Imphal; Prof AJ Patowary, Head, Department of Forensic Medicine, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong and Prof Th Meera Devi, Head, Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, RIMS, Imphal as presidium members, said a release issued by RIMS Imphal.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof G Sunil Kumar stated that the CME will be the new beginning of the institute and a very important phase of the digital world.
"Virtual autopsy relies on Computer Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technologies to capture detailed X-rays and MRI images of the deceased's body to examine the condition of bones, tissues, organs and blood vessels for clues to the cause and manner of death.
It has lots of advantages compared to traditional autopsies", he added.
Prof Memchoubi Ph, Prof Brogen Singh Akoijam, Prof AJ Patowary and Dr S Joychandra Singh also gave presentations on various topics such as Traditional Autopsy, Paternalistic Attitude of Doctors in Medical Practice, Virtopsy: A new phase in Forensic Autopsy and Imaging Techniques & Forensic Ballistics.
Heads of Departments, faculty of Medical, Dental and College of Nursing, officials, staff and students attended the CME.
Meanwhile, a CME on "Perioperative Management of Renal Transplant" was also conducted yesterday at the Seminar Hall, Department of Anaesthesiology & Critical Care, RIMS, Imphal.
It was organised by the Department of Anaesthesiology, RIMS, Imphal in association with ISA, Manipur State Branch.
During the CME, Dr Nikunj Gupta, Medanta Hospital Gurugram and Dr T Kennedy Singh, Shija Hospital, Imphal delivered lectures on "Anaesthetic Management of Patients (both for donors and recipients) during renal transplant" and "Management of Patients after Kidney Transplant" respectively.
Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma; Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent RIMS Hospital, Imphal and other invitees attended the CME.
