Imphal, February 10 2024:
Two people who have lost their livelihood means due to the ongoing violence since May 3, 2023 are currently undergoing medical treatment free of cost at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) hospital, Porompat.
The two patients identified as Lairenlakpam Sundari (64) wife of Shanti of Chingarel Tejpur and a two years old daughter of village volunteer Yumnam Herojit of Sabungkhok Maning Leikai have been undergoing treatment at the hospital under the supervision of JNIMS director professor L Deben.
Sundari suffered leg injury some years back and treated the wound with own money.
Though the wound resurfaced and worsened recently, Sundari could not afford medical treatment as her family has no livelihood means due to the ongoing violence.
Locals intimated about Sundari's condition to AMUCO and the latter intimated the same to JNIMS director professor L Deben, who then initiated free treatment for Sundari's wound at the hospital.
The JNIMS director also initiated free treatment of village volunteer Yumnam Herojit's daughter who is suffering from blood cancer as Herojit could not afford to give medical treatment of his daughter while guarding the village.
JNIMS director professor L Deben along with a team of AMUCO and hospital authority inspected conditions of both the patients at the hospital on Saturday.
After inspecting conditions of the two patients, AMUCO president Nando Luwang informed media persons that the organisation in coordination with JNIMS hospital had given medical treatment to many patients who could not afford medical expenses.
This has been possible due to timely information given by clubs and organisations, he said and appealed to people to inform AMUCO if found any financially poor person who could not afford medical treatment on their own.
Professor L Deben also told media persons that Sundari is undergoing treatment at JNIMS under CMHT scheme but medicines which do not cover under the government scheme are being provided with the help from many kind-hearted individuals while the hospital and some individuals are bearing entire cost of treatment of Herojit's daughter.
