Thoubal, February 10 2024:
Raising grave concern on an alleged case of medical negligence and wrong medication by Sur Hospital, Khangabok in Thoubal district, Ningombam Ankit alias Albert, a resident of Thoubal Okram sought the attention of the authorities concerned to look into the matter and take up adequate actions to save the lives of the patients.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held today at his residence at Thoubal Okram, Albert narrated that his wife, N Arti Devi who is 13 weeks pregnant was taken to Sur Hospital on January 30 as she developed cold and fever where she was treated by MD Dr Laishram Somenkumar who is also the proprietor of the hospital and prescribed some medicines.

However her conditions did not improve so she was taken to Sur Hospital again on February 30 and she was treated by three Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) and was prescribed 12 medicines for her sore throat and vomiting issues, he added.
Albert highlighted that Arti started developing rashes and allergies on her body after taking the prescribed medicines and she started having breathing difficulties, therefore he was taken to the hospital for the third time.
The RMOs present informed that Arti was having allergies, cold and cough, vomiting issues and loose motion and inquired about the doctor whom Arti has been consulting.
Upon which they informed that they have been consulting Dr N Manganthoi Meetei and requested to meet him, he said.
Subsequently, Dr N Manganthoi Meetei was called and he checked on the condition of Arti and reprimanded the nurses and RMOs for prescribing medicines to his patient without consulting him.
Further Dr N Manganthoi Meetei advised the patient to stop taking all the earlier medicines and prescribed new medicines stating that it is a case of 'drug allergy' without conducting relevant tests and gave his contact number to contact him for further issues.
Ankit went on to inform that Arti's condition worsened and she was taken to Shija Hospitals on February 4 at around 3 am upon the advice of Dr N Manganthoi Meetei and she was admitted to the ICU of Shija Hospitals.
Upon further examinations, Shija Hospitals confirmed it as a case of 'Adverse Drug Reaction' and the doctors informed that the condition of the unborn child will be known once the result of the relevant test comes in after a week.
Showing the diagnosis report from Shija Hospitals, Albert alleged that his pregnant wife has become a victim of medical negligence by Sur Hospital.
In view of the above, he went to Sur Hospital and requested the authorities to shoulder the risk if anything happens to the unborn child.
Rather than owning the mistake and resolving the matter amicably, the hospital proprietor showed unprofessional behaviour which is unfortunate, Albert claimed.
In this regard, a complaint has been filed to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Thoubal and Thoubal Police Station.
Considering the above issues, Albert urged the relevant authorities to take up strict actions against Sur Hospital to ensure that such cases of 'alleged medical negligence' does not recur.
