Symposium on Elangbam Nilakanta held

The Cultural Forum Manipur, under the auspices of Sahitya Akademi, organised a one-day symposium on 'Life and works of Elangbam Nilakanta Singh' at the senate hall of department of earth science, Manipur University, Canchpur on Saturday.
Addressing the event as chief guest, folklorist Huirem Bihari recalled the life and works of Elangbam Nilakanta, how he was one of the founder members of The Cultural Forum, Manipur and had remained as president for four terms.
He said that reviewing his works will take at least a couple of days while remembering the Padmashree awardee as a multifaceted person, who left his indelible marks as writer, critic and philosopher.
Sahitya Akademi, Kolkata regional secretary Devendra Kumar Devesh, Sahitya Akademi Manipuri Language Advisory Board convenor Rajen Toijamba, and Cultural Forum Manipur president Koijam Shantibala attended the occasion as presidium members.
The first technical session of the symposium was moderated by Longjam Joychandra, during which L Koireng presented paper on 'Life and Works of Nilakanta Singh', Ningombam Nando on 'Elangbam Nilakanta Singh as a poet', and K Memton Devi on 'Elangbam Nilakanta Singh as a critic'.
In the second session moderated by Th Ratankumar; W Romesh, T Kunjeshore and L Anand presented papers on the topics of 'Elangbam Nilakanta as an essayist', 'Elangbam Nilakanta as a Travel Writer', and 'Language and Diction of Elangbam Nilakanta's Work' respectively.
