Imphal, January 28 2024:
The Assam Rifles has strongly condemned and refuted allegations Kuki Inpi Manipur made yesterday against Col Oinam Akash, Commandant of 18 AR as unfounded and deplorable.
In a statement today, the Assam Rifles said Col Oinam Akash is a decorated soldier belonging to Manipur and he has been instrumental in restoring peace in the sensitive Dolaithabi area.
Yesterday, Kuki Inpi Manipur had accused the officer of supporting armed men in an alleged attack at Satang which killed one Kuki militant.
The locals in the area of Saikul, Dolaithabi and Sagolmang, belonging to all communities are well aware of the massive efforts put in by the officer and his soldiers, acting with disregard to their own personal safety to keep the civilians safe.
His relentless efforts in ensuring a peaceful atmosphere in the area has been commendable, said AR.
"It is very unfortunate to see an organisation of the stature of Kuki Inpi, fall prey to malicious propaganda and make such unfounded radical and communal allegations against the gallant and decorated officer.
Such statements are not only defaming but also devoid of the ground realities.
It was the troops under his command that took proactive actions to stop the miscreants in the area of Khamenlok on 27 January 2024," said the AR.
The Assam Rifles will continue to discharge its duties in an impartial, fair and firm manner.
Assam Rifles reassures commitment in establishing peace in the State and requests the population to refrain from falling prey to such malicious and vitiated allegations, it said.
