Kuki militants attack Meetei villages

Imphal, January 28 2024:
Kuki militants on Sunday fired towards village volunteers guarding Sinam and Leimaram villages under Imphal West district.
According to information received by the press, the militants started bring towards the village volunteers guarding Sinam village around 6 am Sunday from the nearby Kuki settlements.
The village volunteers also retaliated resulting in exchange of fire for around an hour.
No Meetei village volunteers were injured in the firing.
The Kuki militants also rained bullets towards the Meetei villagers in Leimaram under Bishnupur district.
Soon after receiving report of the attack, personnel of Bishnupur district police and village volunteers rushed to the spot.
There is no report of injuries in the attack.
Meanwhile, the last rites of Lairenlakpam Bimola who died in an accident on her way to help the Meetei village volunteers who were attacked by Kuki militants in Khamenlok area on Saturday, was performed and laid to rest.
People from different parts of the state converged at JNIMS mortuary to claim the body of Bimola after conducting post mortem examination.
The body was taken to Kangla Siphai in the form of a procession passing through different parts of Imphal East.
Later the body was taken to Yaral in Imphal East where people paid floral tributes.
Volunteers of Arambai Tenggol Khurai unit also paid salute to the deceased and finally laid to rest.
It may be mentioned that a fierce gun fight broke out at Khamenlok on Saturday around 5:30 am after Kuki militants attacked the Meetei village volunteers.
In the gun fight, one Kuki militant was killed and four Meetei village volunteers suffered injuries.
