AR seizes areca nuts, timber, arms & ammos

Imphal, January 28 2024:
Acting on credible intelligence regarding the illegal transportation of areca nuts and timber in general area of Kangpat centre, a search operation was launched by an Assam Rifles column on Saturday, leading to the seizure of nine trucks illegally carrying areca nuts and timber without valid documents.
Informing that the seized areca nuts and timber were destined for illegal distribution in the black market, PRO IGAR (S) said the seized items including 320 bags (approximate weight 25.6 tonnes) of areca/betel nuts valued at Rs 3.08 crore, and 1120 cubic feet of timber valued at Rs 8.96 crore have been handed over to the forest beat officer of Kamjong district.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles, Special Operations Group Imphal West, and Manipur Police conducted a joint search operation on January 28 and recovered one 51 mm improvised mortar, one 9 mm pistol, three grenades, and other warlike stores from general area of Oinam Sawombung in Imphal West district.
