Amidst the conflict involving the indigenous Meetei community and threat they are facing from different sides, scores of educated and unmarried women coming out to save the community shall remained as an unforgettable chapter in the history of Manipur, stated women's wing of Meetei Tribe Union (MTU).
Terming as very fortunate that educated and unmarried women came out to forge unity amid attacks on Meetei community by Ku-ki-Zo people coming from Myanmar to snatch land, administration and economy, a statement of MTU women's wing stressed the need for unmarried Meetei women to take responsibility and take decisive decision to fight illegal immigrants.
According to a statement of MTU women's wing, scores of unmarried and educated Meetei women including school and college going students are shouldering their responsibility in the ongoing war similar to the role played by women in the Vietnam war, Chinese revolution and Russian revolution.
The courage displayed by educated and unmarried Meetei women in the present war is no less than Meetei women's courage and spirit shown during the two Nupi Lal, it said.
Expressing concern that Meetei community would be extinct in the huge wave of India's 143 crore population and illegal immigrants coming from Myanmar, the women's wing said it is the responsibility of every Meetei people to save the community and land.
Accordingly, it is important for the Meetei community to be listed under ST category as per Article 342 (1) of the Indian Constitution and delist refugees from the ST list.
It also said that no refugee should be given opportunity to avail benefits under government welfare schemes including loan even during the ongoing war.
