Imphal, June 17 2023:
Asserting that the present crisis in the state is an outcome of the Government of India's policy to weaponise a community to gain political advantage, social activist MI Khan said that Meitei Pangal community will join the issue and raise pre-merger status demand unless the government restores peace and normalcy at the earliest.
He was interacting with media at a peace prayer ceremony held at Urup Khunou Kabarstan Masjid organised by Peace and Reconciliation Coordinating Committee of Keirao Makting, Urup and Kyamgei areas.
Committee chairman MI Khan said that the crisis is an outcome of communal politics and divide & rule policy played by the Central government.
He charged the Central government of allowing the violence to continue by saying one thing to Meeteis, one thing to Kukis and another to Nagas thereby inciting communal enmity.
Questioning the motive of the Centre over the situation, he said that the government should be held responsible for the deaths and destructions due to the crisis.
Meanwhile, expressing grave concerned over protracted vi- olence in the state, Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) has appealed to Meitei Pangal traders and drivers not to involve in transporting of goods and doing business for personal interest so as to prevent unwanted incidents.
In a release, MMWO president Boboi Korimayum cautioned that individuals involved in transport operation should bear the consequences on their own.
He termed silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the conflict situation as testament of an irresponsible leader while reminding that it is not the time for the MLAs and ministers to cling to their posts.
Instead they should exert pressure on the central government to bring solution by considering the sentiments of the people, he added.
