Bishnupur, June 17 2023:
Residents of Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Maning Leikai are living in anxiety due to the gun-fight between the Kuki militants and State police forces since the past few days.
Narrating the ordeal to this correspondent of TSE, a womenfolk of Moirang Turel Mapan questioned why the BJP leaders and Union Ministers have failed to visit the State to take stock of the crisis while they used to flock to the State during election campaigns.
With regards to the heavy gun-fight, she stated that the villagers are terrified by the sound of gun-shots once darkness sets in and are living under the constant fear of being attacked by the Kuki militants who have been constructing bunkers and advancing towards the Meitei villages.
Stating that the most affected people are farmers and daily wage labourers who have been compelled to take refuge in the relief camps, she urged the Government to take up measures to resolve the ongoing conflict for common good.
Expressing grave concern on the unlawful activities of the SoO Kuki militants, she urged the Government to look into the issue and take stringent actions against the violators.
Meanwhile, Kuki militants started firing from Chingkham Heikol towards Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Maning Leikai from around 4 pm onwards which is now being manned by BSF personnel after removing the State Forces, VDF and village personnel earlier in the day.
