9 remanded to police custody

Imphal, June 17 2023:
Nine persons accused of torching houses in Imphal East have been sent to police custody for three days by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East today.
While 7 of them are accused of burning a house at Harikhagok Makhong yesterday, two are accused of burning the house of RK Ranjan, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education on June 15 night.
Notably, the two persons were among 12 persons who were arrested for their alleged involvement in a confrontation with the security forces.
After Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East released the 12 individuals on bail yesterday, the two persons were re-arrested by Irilbung police on the charge of burning down the house of RK Ranjan.
The two persons were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal East by Irilbung police today with a prayer for 3 days police custody.
While the defense counsel filed a remand objection along with a prayer for releasing them on bail, the Court remanded the two to 3 days police custody till June 19 .
The other 7 individuals who are accused of burning down a house at Harikhagok Makhong were produced before the Court of the CJM Imphal East by Porompat police.
The Court also remanded them to 3 days police custody for further investigation.
