Imphal, June 17 2023:
While stating that the war waged by Kuki against Meitei shall never succeed, social activist RK Meghen called upon all the communities of Manipur to defend against this war waged by Kuki from Awa (present day Myanmar) .
He made the statement during a public meeting organised by Coordinating Committee of Club and Organisation (COCOCO) at Lam-deng Kangjeibung Lampak on Saturday.
Meghen stressed on the need to understand that the Kukis are waging this war because they have a powerful backer.
This war will not end in a matter of days.
Although the peace committee was formed, there are sporadic violent incidents.
On top of this, it would not be wrong to speculate possibility of high number of casualties on both sides.
If the war is meant to continue for a long time, there is need to train the volunteers who have come forward to defend Manipur, he asserted.
Stating that both the Meitei and Kuki people are suffering due to the violence because of the divisive politics played amongst the Kuki populace and within Manipur itself, he cited the example of SoO militant groups helping BJP to win elections, as reported in the media.
The citizens are bound to suffer if politicians fail to adhere to the principles of democracy.
As such, both Kuki and Meitei civilians are the victims of these undemocratic politicians.
To rectify this, the communities residing in the state need to take a joint resolution, he said, while stressing the need for the Meitei community to stand united alongside the Naga and Meitei-Pangal communities.
During tne meeting, various resolutions were adopted including for Meitei, Tangkhul, Pangal, Chiru, Maring and Kabui communities residing in 21 villages covered by COCOCO to stand united for Manipur's integrity; urging the Government of India against any separate administration in Manipur and for implementation of NRC; extending support to CSOs working to protect Manipur's integrity; and preventing any unwanted incidents in the 21 villages in addition to working together to solve the incidents.
The meeting was attended by AMUCO president Nando Luwang, Kabui Union Manipur president Heera Kabui, Federation of Haomee resident Sapamcha Jadumani and leaders of other organisations.
