Imphal, June 17 2023:
Taking serious note over circulation of a defamatory post against him in a Facebook Page called 'Ema Leibak Manipur', Power minister Thongam Biswajit said that appropriate action will be taken up against those involved in defaming him.
Addressing a press meet at his official residence here on Friday, Biswajit said that there were multiple instances of misinformation campaign against him but remained silent thinking that truth will prevail.
However, Thursday's rumour circulated about him in the Facebook is a serious matter amid the crisis in the state and he felt the need for issuing a clarification in order to make the public aware of the truth.
As such bid to character-assassinate might happen to anybody, a com plaint has been lodged to the SP Cyber Crime, he added.
Informing that the post was first uploaded in the Face book page called 'Ema Leibak Manipur' on Thursday 7 pm, he said that there seems to be a political hand behind the rumour.
Shortly after the rumour was circulated, a mob tried to attack his home and it shows the sinister design behind the rumour, the minister opined, adding that the facebook post also incited the womenfolk, the minister said.
On Friday, the same FB page shared a post clarifying that one of their team members posted the same without confirmation while seeking forgiveness.
However, the Page admins cannot go scot free by simply uploading an apologetic post after causing damage.
It may take time but appropriate actions will be taken up against those perpetrators, Biswajit'affirmed, while conveying that he is open to have a conversation with the Page admins but will not hesitate to ensure punitive action if they try to hide.
Biswajit further said that he welcomes any criticism of his works but cannot accept such rumours targeting his character and life.
He also thanked Meira Paibi members of his locality and his constituency for defending his home from the misled mob.
Biswajit further shared the grief and pain of those, who have been killed in the on-going conflict.
