NEPO lines up academic campaign

To bring about an amicable solution to the present crisis and convey the grievances and aspira-tions of the people of Mani- pur, the North East People' Organisation (NEPO) is laun-ching an academic campaign in the National capital, Delhi from June 19 to 22 .
A team of the Consultative Committee and its executive members will meet different academic fraternity and leaders in Delhi, said NEPO's secretary general Laishram Ibomcha at Manipur Press Club today.
NEPO stands for the territorial integrity, multi- ethnic identity of Manipur and opposes any policy to balkanise the State.
It opposes any form of politics that threatens the age-old unity and integrity of the ethnic communities of the State, he said.

Appealing for peace, he said the SoO (Suspension of Operation) bound Kuki militants should immediately stop all acts of violence against civilians and the State.
Stopping violence is the sole and immediate basis for bringing an atmosphere conducive to initiating peace process, he added.
To pave the way for peace, Ibomcha said the Governor can propose re-reconstitution of the Peace Committee with representatives of all ethnic communities.
The Government needs to bring onboard intellectuals, academic fraternity, social activists etc in the peace process, he said, appealing to all ethnic communities to provide all possible help and adopt constructive approaches to restore peace at the earliest.
Further, educational institutes should be opened with adjustments for hybrid mode of teaching-learning including opening of limited internet facilities.
Price inflation should be prevented at all cost and free and secure passage of vehicles on the two National Highways should be ensured, he said.
Urging the Government to expedite processes for rehabilitation and creation of temporary earnings for the displaced people irrespective of their ethnicity on priority basis, he said people should not believe in unfounded rumours or act rashly.
"People should abstain from doing anything that may fail us in achieving the right objective", he said.
