Imphal, March 06 2024:
Pointing out the vast disparity in the sponsorship provided between sportsper-sons and artistes, Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata Board of Governors member Buddha Chingtham has expressed hope that the government would view both sports and culture equally.
He was speaking at the valedictory function of a two-month workshop cum production programme on 'Udukhol' art form organised by Shri Shri Patita Pawana Natya Mandir, Keishamthong Hodam Leirak under the sponsorship of Cultural Function and Production Grant Scheme (CFPGS) of Ministry of Culture, at the auditorium of Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) in Yaiskul Police Lane, here, on Wednesday.
The closing function was attended by Mandir president Aribam Sanayaima Shanna as president, while theatre director Loitongbam Brajamohon and MDU junior board member Unba Meetei were present as guests of honour.
Speaking as the chief guest, Buddha Chingtham opined that the old traditional theatrical art forms are part of the real cultural heritage of this land as traditions, customs, identity and national were fully showcased thereby underscoring an artiste s contribution to society.
However, the number of artistes being recognised for their efforts is few and support extended even lower.
Manipur is known all over the world not only for its prowess in sports but in culture as well.
As such, both fields should be viewed equally, he stressed.
