Training on seed testing concludes

The weeklong training programme organised by ICAR Research Complex for North East Hill Region Manipur Centre on "Seed Testing and Seed Certification of Crops in North East Hill Region" concluded at the Lamphelpat ICAR Manipur Centre, here, on Wednesday.
The valedictory function was attended by Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal director of Extension Education professor Ph Ranjit Sharma, College of Agriculture's agronomy professor L Nabachandra, All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) Seed (Crops), ICAR Manipur Centre nodal officer Dr I Meghachandra Singh, agriculture deputy director AK Chitrasen, scientists of ICAR Manipur Centre, officials of Agriculture, Horticulture and Soil Conservation department, representatives of KVK, District agriculture officers and representatives of KVK, West Siang (Arunachal Pradesh) and Nagaland.
Speaking at the programme, Dr I Meghachandra Singh explained that the training programme aims to impart education on seed certification, international guideline and norms and production of quality seeds to the farmers by experts of KVK, ICAR and agriculture and horticulture department.
It was also conducted to ensure proper man agement of human resources in connection with seed testing and seed certification in the state, he said, adding that the Seed Act 1969 is yet to be implemented in the state although the same has already been done in others states of the country.
The seed certification and testing is available on in Assam in the northeast region.
However, the state government is planning to set up a similar facility in Manipur while agriculture commissioner had held discussion on setting up of a Seed Corporation, informed Dr Meghachandra.
As a part of the valedictory function, certificates were distributed to the participants of the workshop.
