Songphil-Laikhong hills combed; arms, ammos recovered

A large team of Imphal East district police on Wednesday conducted search operation atop the Songphil-Laikhong hills nearby Keihao village where two excavators (JCB) and one vehicle were torched on March 17 and recovered huge arms, ammunition and explosives.
According to a source, police teams comprising SDPO Lamlai, OC Maphou Dam and Imphal East district police commando led by OC inspector Kh Henry under the command of additional SP (Ops) Kh Herojit and the overall supervision of SP Imphal East K Meghachandra conducted search operation at Keihao village and retrieved two excavators and one vehicle torched by Kuki militants on March 17 .
Later, the district police including reserve line personnel conducted search operation atop the Songphil-Laikhong hills from 2pm onwards and recovered huge arms and ammunition.
The police team first recovered several weapons, bombs and ammunition from a spot barely 100 metres from the spot where Kuki militants torched three vehicles on March 17 .
The recovered weapons include one 6-ft long country made launcher (Pompi), one 3-ft long Pom-pi, two radio sets, seven live Pompi bombs, nine rounds of AK 47 ammunition, seven empty cases of SLR ammunition, 21 empty cases of .303 rifle, ammunition and one Pompi bomb shell.
As the police team continued search operation at Nungmanbi/Pheija village located between Keithel-manbi and Laikhong villages from 3.30 pm, more arms and ammunition were recovered.
The recoveries include one INSAS rifle with magazine, one .303 rifle with mag azine and 38 rounds, one country made 9mm pistol with magazine, 18 ammunition for 12 bore rifle, one INSAS LMG, two 36 high explosive hand grenade, 28 blank rounds of .303 rifle, 59 fired cases of .303, six empty cases of 12 bore rifle, three Kenwood radio sets, seven tear gas smoke shells, four tear smoke soft nose, one stunt shell, 18 empty cases of SLR ammunition, one fin for 2inch mortar, one broken magazine of AK-47 rifle, 161 numbers of MK-3 ammunition and two fuse caps of MK 1 rifle.
All the recovered arms and ammunition were hand ed over to Maphou Dam PS for further necessary action.
