Training / interaction programme held at CAU

All India Co-ordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Nematodes in Agriculture, Imphal Centre under College of Agriculture, CAU, Imphal organised a two-day training cum interaction programme for Imphal East district farmers on "Nematode Pests Of Kharif Crops And Its Management" on March 14 and 15 under NEH Component at College of Agriculture, CAU, Manipur.
The programme was funded by ICAR-AICRP on Nematodes in Agriculture.
Speaking at the programme, project principal investigator Dr Ksh Sumita briefed the farmers on the importance ff the training programme on nematode while highlighting that such trainings are necessary for the farming community as farmers are still unaware of the nematode problems in crops.
She also shared the importance of plant protection having three subjects mainly Entomology, Nematology and Plant Pathology.
She gave the power point presentation on nematode pests of kharif crops including cereals and vegetables as well as on the emerging nematode problems in different crops like potato, garlic, onion, passion fruit, etc.
Emphasis was given on soil solarisation, crop rotation, deep summer ploughing, planting of marigold or mustard and use of bio-control agents like Psuedomonas fluorescence incorporated with FYM, application of organic manures like 'neem' cake or castor oilcakes or mustard oilcakes for the management of nematode problems in vegetable crops and rice field.
A total of 30 farmers participated in the programme after which seeds of different crops and vermicompost were distributed.
