MU hosts discourse on NEP, 'Changing Media Landscapes'

To better understand the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, a two-day national conference on 'Bharatiya Knowledge System: Research for Resurgence' began from Wednesday at the Court Hall of Manipur University.
The inaugural session of the conference being organised jointly by Manipur University, Dhanamanjuri University, Manipur Prant of Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal,' NIT Manipur and directorate of education (S), Manipur was attended by Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal's Akhil Bhartiya Sangathan Mantri BR Shankaranand as chief guest, MU VC professor N Lokendra as president and DM University VC professor N Rajmuhon as guest of honour.
Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, Manipur Prant president professor Meinam Binota also attended the inaugural session, during which a book entitled 'Bharatiya Knowledge System: Manipur - Volume 1' was released by the dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, BR Shankaranand pointed out that Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal was established to improve education system of the country and stressed the need for further development of the education sector to make India the most developed and powerful country in the world.
Delivering the key note address, professor Meinam Binota noted that Manipur has started implementing of NEP-2020 but proper implementation of provisions of the policy is yet to be accomplished due to lack of in-depth knowledge of the policy.
To facilitate successful implementation of the policy in the state, the seminar has been organised together with stakeholders involved in framing the policy, academicians and intellectuals.
As the traditional knowledge system of Manipur incorporates five credit programmes of the Indian Knowledge System it is expected to aid effective implementation of NEP-2020 in the state, she said, while emphasising on conduct of more such seminars to plug the loopholes in syllabus and curriculum.
Many professors from different universities and colleges of the North East states, representatives of syllabus-curriculum committee and administration are taking part in the two-day-long national conference.
On the other-hand, a national conference on "Changing Media Landscapes and Society" was organised by Manipur University, Department of Mass Communication at the Senate Hall of the varsity on Wednesday with the inaugural function attended by MU vice chancellor Prof N Lokendra Singh and Department of Mass Communication head Dr RK Lilapati as chief guest and president respectively while School of Social Sciences dean Prof Th Purnima and Makhanwala Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal former vice chancellor Prof BK Kuthiala were guests of honour.
In his address, Prof N Lokendra acknowledged that media has been playing a crucial role in the advancement of a society in addition to highlighting grievances and concerns of the public to the policy makers.
He expressed that the workshop will provide an opportunity to the academics and scholars of the state to play their part in the shifting political and economic landscape.
Noting that the media has been able to highlight happenings in the state to the global fraternity, he also commended the media persons for giving wide and proper coverage to suffering brought on by the humanitarian gripping the masses for over 10 months.
