Principal, teachers arrested for leaking question paper

Imphal, March 20 2024:
Imphal West Chief Judicial Magistrate remanded three teachers including a school principal to judicial custody in connection with leaking and sharing of Science question paper of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination 2024 conducted on March 15 .
The arrested principal of Pishak Macha Bidya Mandir, Mayang Imphal has been identified as Mutum Bijen S/o Gunindro of Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai.
The other two teachers are Chongtham Naoba (28) s/o late Ibohal of Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai and Mutum Bijen (61) s/o late Ibomcha of Langthabal Lep Awang Leikai.
They have been arrested under different sections of the recently enacted Manipur Prevention of Malpractices in High School Leaving Certificate and Higher Secondary Examination Act 2024, IPC and Cyber Crime Act.
The arrested persons were produced before the court by a team of Cyber Crime police station on Tuesday during which the defence counsels filed an application for releasing them on bail while the APP stated that a complaint was lodged on March 15 alleging that the Science question paper was leaked and shared on social media platforms few hours befote commencement of the examination on March 15.During the course of investigation by the cyber-crime, it was found that the leaking and sharing of the question paper done by Chirom Somendro, who shared the question paper to his student, later rounded up from his residence on March 16.During preliminary interrogation, Somendro revealed that he is a teacher of Pishak Macha Bidya Mandir and the question paper was shared to him by Chongtham Naoba, a teacher of the same school.
Naoba, who also runs a coaching centre at his residence disclosed that the question paper was shared to him by Mutum Bijen, principal of the school.
The police arrested Naoba as well as Bijen with the latter admitting that he shared the question paper to Naoba with the directive to share the same to students of the school.
The APP further stated that Somendro and Naoba after receiving the question paper from Bijen, shared it with some students and to the boarding tutorial schools.
When they learnt that police have started investigation, they deleted the question paper and WhatsApp chats from their mobile phones, continued the AAP.
Subsequently, the court remanded the three teachers in judicial custody till March 22 .
