IDP kids die in drowning case, woman at MI relief camp

Four children, who were living in a relief camp along with their families, lost their lives after drowning in a river in Churachandpur district as an internally displaced woman could not be resuscitated after she collapsed suddenly while watching television in a relief camp set up at Mayang Imphal Charoibung.
The children - - three girls and a boy, aged between 4 and 9 - who were living in the ECA Canan relief camp in Tuibuong due to the ethnic strife in the state, reportedly went to take bath at the Tu-itha river near their camp around 2 pm on Tuesday.
As they did not come back for a long, their families along with other camp residents started looking for them as police joined the search on being informed.
Around 6 am Wednesday, bodies of the children were found in the river.
According to sources, the four children went to the river to take bath while their parents were elsewhere.
When they failed to return, their parents grew apprehensive and began searching for them with the assistance of local residents.
After a night-long search was conducted, and two of the children's bodies were found inside the Tuitha river at 6 am on Wednesday, followed by the other two within 30 minutes.
Their bodies were later taken to the district hospital in an ambulance accompanied by the district police.
The drowned victims were identified as Lenchonghoi (9 yrs old) d/o Lunkholal, Lallenchung Lupho (6 yrs) s/o Boishi, Thanggouhou (4 yrs) s/o Ngaineichong, and Thongkhohou (6 yrs) s/o Ngamginthang.
Two of the deceased - Lienchonghoi and Lallenchung - were siblings whose father was on duty at the frontline, said the sources.
A funeral service was held at the Kuki Khanglai Lompi (KKL) Complex, Headquarter Veng, on Wednesday.
Their mortal remains were laid to rest at KKL cemetery near Tuinom village later.
Meanwhile, a woman IDP staying in the relief camp at Mayang Imphal Charoibung in Imphal West district passed away as she collapsed while watching TV on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Hidam Ibema (54), wife of (late) Hidam Modhu from Premnagar ward no 4 of Moreh.
She had been staying in the relief camp along with her son and daughter, sources said.
According to one Kh Ibecha, although the government made available doctors and provided medicines for treatment of minor ailments suffered by the IDPs, no medical service could be accessed in case of serious health complications.
She also appealed to the government to provide means of livelihood for the two children of Hidam Ibema.
