Kakching, October 06 2023:
It is very unfortunate that Meetei people are fighting with each other due to different ideologies and politicising the issue when the state is facing ethnic conflict, instead of collectively taking on the enemy, said Kakching MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar.
Addressing the media with supporters at his Kakching Makha Lou residence on Thursday, MLA M Rameshwar stated that the Union government is working to control the prevailing situation in the state caused by immigrants and has started conducting biometric survey, which will go on till March 31, 2024, to identify Indian citizens.
It is the aim of MLAs to restore normalcy in the state and for this it is necessary that all 60 MLAs belonging to Meetei, Naga and Kuki communities sit together to find out reason behind the present conflict and resolve the differences, he observed.
The MLA also said that during the recent visit of the MLAs to Delhi they had asked the centre why it has not started a peace process wherein all 60 MLAs can sit together to discuss the issue, after which the centre assured of initiating the peace process by involving all the MLAs.
Noting that people of Manipur have been asking what the Meetei MLAs have been doing regarding the present crisis, he clarified that it is due to their effort that separate administration demanded by the 10 Kuki MLAs has not been granted till today by the centre.
Rameshwar emphasised that until the implausible demand for separate ad ministration is withdrawn, it is highly unlikely that the present conflict will end.
On individual initiative regarding the present conflict, the MLA maintained that he is meeting with central government leaders to press for resolving the situation and also visiting areas affected by Kuki militant attacks and extending whatever help he can.
