Livelihood enterprise development programme on piggery concludes

The valedictory function of the 15-day Livelihood Enterprise Development Programme on Piggery for Self Help Groups (SHGs) was held today at JMC Hall, Kumbi Bazar.
The livelihood enterprise development programme on Piggery was organised by People's Development Society, New Checkon under the sponsorship of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Manipur Regional Office.
The valedictory function was graced by Joint Director of District Veterinary Office Bishnupur, Dr L Gojendro Singh; Chief Executive Officer PDS, Th Biramangol Singh and Lead Director Manager (LDM) Bishnupur district, Y Ibochouba Singh; Branch Manager Manipur Rural Bank Kumbi, Sasanka Longjam and Branch Manager Punjab National Bank Moirang, Joymati Devi as the presidium members.

Participation certificates were also presented to 98 participants belonging to Wangoo Ahallup Cluster, Kumbi Setupur Mayai Leikai Cluster and Kumbi Awang Leikai Cluster.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr L Gojendro Singh stated that rearing livestock is one of the good sources of generating a regular income for livelihood and appealed to all the participants to implement the valuable knowledge imparted during the programme to derive benefits.
He also mentioned the provisions to provide loans by the banks to those who carry out such activities effectively.
Talking about African Swine Fever, a contagious and deadly disease affecting the domestic and wild pigs for which no vaccine has not been produced till date, he highlighted the importance of taking up strict bio safety measures to prevent the spread of this disease.
Dr Gojendro maintained that collective measures should be taken up by both the farmers and the relevant departments to check the spread of African Fever whenever a case has been detected.
