Significance of protecting wildlife highlighted

The 69th Wildlife Week, 2023 was celebrated under the theme 'Our Wildlife, Our Pride' by conducting an awareness cum prize distribution at Kiyamba Ningshing Shanglen, Bishnupur district today.
As a part of the celebration, Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur, Lourembam Bikram also flagged off a 'Mobile Anti-Poaching Campaign' which will be conducted in and around Loktak Lake.
Speaking as the chief guest, the DC said that earth is a unique planet as it is capable of sustaining life with water and oxygen as the main sources of life.
He stressed that everyone should have a sense of responsibility and conscious ness towards conserving wildlife so as to help in sustaining the environment.
He maintained that schools and other educational institutes should inculcate among the students the habit of taking up responsible steps to conserve the environment.
Superintendent of Police, Bishnupur, K Meghachandra Singh Highlighting certain laws under the Wildlife Protection Act, he said that killing, poaching, poisoning, or torturing animals are cognizable offences under this Act and appealed to all to refrain from these activities.
Prizes for painting, essay, and slogan writing competitions were distributed to the winners.
Certificates of Appreciation were also presented to the wildlife rescuers during the celebration.
Divisional Forest Officer, Bishnupur Forest Division, Dr Rebika Soibam, officials and students among others attended the celebration.
