Imphal, October 06 2023:
Highlighting the grievances of the Village Defence Force (VDF) personnel, the All Manipur VDF Employee Welfare Association (AMVDFEWA) has appealed to the Government to acknowledge the role of VDF in maintaining law & order in the State and increase their honorarium at the earliest.
In a release, AMVDFEWA shared that VDF personnel have been discharging their duties and helping the Government and the public for the last 15 years.
Pointing out that VDF personnel are engaged at various departments to maintain law & order at banks, Government offices/buildings, MLAs/Ministers' residences, police stations and outposts, the association said, "VDF personnel are carrying out duties just like any other police personnel with very less pay" .
They are given a remuneration of only Rs 9,500 plus Rs 2,000 ration money, which is difficult for them to manage and run their families, said the association.
AMVDFEWA continued that although the association appreciates the Government for increasing the pay from Rs 3,000 to Rs 9,500 over the years, the current pay is not enough to support a family, it can hardly even cover electricity bills and education for their children.
Further, appealing to the Government of Manipur and Police Department to fulfil the demands listed in the representation submitted on September 21, 2023 to the Manipur Police Department, AMVDFEWA added that if the Government and Police Department are not able to fulfil the demands of the association, they should allocate duties to VDF personnel as per the guidelines of the R/R, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
