In a collaborative effort to address the pressing issue of women s health amidst the ongoing conflict in the state, Scientists & Co, a non-profit organisation led by multinational scientists, partnered with Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and Children In Education UK in conducting an extensive educational campaign.
Aimed at empowering women with knowledge on self-care, disease awareness, and confidence to face daily challenges, the campaign was led by Founder-Director of Scientists & Co Dr Sweta Raghavan, and coordinated by IYC general secretary (Manipur in-charge) Sarifa Rahman, and IYC state president Popilal Ningthoujam.
The campaign, conducted in the regional language, was held at the relief centres set up at Phayeng High School and Mekola Gulap Higher Secondary School in Imphal West and Leimaram SC Girls' Hostel in Bishnupur district.
The campaign centred on imparting education and training to nearly 350 internally displaced women, equipping them to manage their health and well-being effectively.
In a significant stride towards ensuring menstrual hygiene; clean, reusable and eco-friendly sanitary pads were distributed free-of-cost, so that these women can maintain a sense of normalcy during menstruation amidst challenging circumstances.
This effort was aimed at not only addressing a fundamental health concern but also at promoting sustainability and hygiene.
Furthermore, as a part of the campaign, Scientists & Co conducted a comprehensive scoping exercise to gain a deeper understanding of the healthcare needs and challenges faced by the internally displaced persons in Manipur and guide future healthcare interventions tailored to suit their specific needs and circumstances.
