Appealing to all citizens, clubs and meira paibi lups of Manipur to refrain from carrying out any mode of protest which can cause misunderstanding and weaken the socio-economic activities of the toiling masses, the Taragi Cheisu has categorically stated that local issues of any kind that can be best dealt with should be resolved at the local level while the issue that is of larger nature must be undertaken only after thorough democratic consultation.
In a statement signed by its chairman Khaidem Mani, Taragi Cheisu continued that they are highly dismayed by the frequent diktats of bandhs issued by the local clubs and associations almost at will.
The Taragi Cheisu said that they are equally aware of the unparalleled threat posed to the integrity of Manipur largely due to the sectarian pursuit of a section of people who harbour ethnocentric aspirations.
The collective also said that the glorious spirit of inter-ethnic sociocultural and political manoeuvring 'that we inherit from our ancestor' must not be diminished in any form or manner despite the emergent onslaught.
Maintaining that the response of the peace loving citizens whose ethos are multi-cultural and plural cannot be analogous to those whose politics is based on engineering hatred, ethnocentrism and illegal economic practices, Taragi Cheisu reasoned that to act with precision and being bound by the collective wisdom is the most viable option left for the people whose ancestors were secular, democratic and defen- ders of collective freedom.
It went on to state that the Meiteis must play the central role to defeat the sectarian forces who indulge in hate campaigns, ethnic violence, propaganda of religion, implantation of new population and illicit economies as channels of their myopic politics.
Saying that they believe in co-existence and unity of Manipur, the Taragi Cheisu asserted that the sectarian politics which challenges the inclusive political culture of Manipur can be defeated by upholding the values of tolerance and spirit of collective decision making.
It further said that the mushrooming of forums and associations and innumerable diktats issued by local bodies not only calls for rethinking but are also unwarranted.
"In contrast to the need for durable response, local clubs and associations have often been seen making knee-jerk reactions which only enhance the dubious design of the sectarian forces whose objective is to undermine the law and order, cleanse certain people from certain areas and indulge in narco-economic activities," it added.
Continuing that the Meitei brethren have to act in congruence with a collective spirit of resilience 'which we inherit from our civilization, culture and democratic political institution,' the collective main- tained that the fraternal bro-thers and sisters in Manipur who have not been affected by the unprecedented violence directly must play constructive role in bringing back normalcy in Manipur.
Saying that the ramifications of the ongoing and unprecedented violence in Manipur can be seen widely across the State in the form of price rise, deprivation of free movement on highways and farming rights etc, it appealed to all citizens, clubs and meira paibi lups of Manipur to refrain from carrying out any mode of protest which can cause misunderstanding and weaken the socio-economic activities of the toiling masses.
