Tributes paid to exiled 'heroes', award presented

Imphal, October 06 2023:
Dalit Sahitya Akademi, Manipur is observing the 2nd Exiled Heroes Memorial Observance 2023 from October 4 to 10 at the auditorium of Circuit House Hodo, Mount Manipur in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
A press statement of the Akademi informed that on the second day of the observance, floral tributes were paid to the exiled heroes of the Anglo-Manipuri War including King Kullachandra.
Mount Manipur Award 2023 was also distributed to people from different walks of life namely, Kshetrimayum Subadani, Ningthoujam Uma Devi, Wahengbam Kumari Chanu, Phurailatpam Meena Devi, Padmashree Dr Waikhom Gojen Meitei, Salam Ibopishak, Thoudam Sarat Meitei, Ibotombi Salam, Rajen Leishangthem, Khwairakpam Khamba Singh, Gitarani Chongtham, Elangbam Borish, Huidrom Langamba Mangang and Maibam Memi Devi.
Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar, protocol in-charge L She-sha Giri, protocol assistant K Ganesh, Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Akademi-New Delhi secretary Dr Y Mahendrakumar Singh attended the event as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
A poetry meet was also organised as part of the event and tour programme conducted to important places like Wandoor, Chidiyapatu, Mount Manipur, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Island, Swaraj Dweep, Shaheed Dweep, Chatham Saw Mill, Long Island, Mayabunder, Rose Garden, Cellular Jail and Nicobar areas.
Earlier, during the inaugural session, a two-minute silence was observed to condole the loss of lives, displacement of thousands of families and destruction of properties in the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Manipur while praying for return of peace in the state.
