Imphal, February 15 2024:
Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSBT) vice president Bidyapati Senjam has called for preserving our community and culture, and making necessary efforts for bringing about global recognition.
Meihourol Inat Thang-Ta Apunba Lup (MITTAL) celebrated its 40th foundation day at Sagolband Salam Leikai on Thursday.
Presided over by LSBT senior member Keisham Ibomcha, the function was also attended by Indigenous People's Association Kangleipak (IPAK) president Ksh Somorendro as guest of honour.
Speaking as the chief guest, Bidyapati Senjam noted that the people of Manipur had been suppressed for a long time and as such, we have forgotten most of our customs and traditions due to foreign influences.
He continued that in the old days, all Meetei men used to be well-versed in Thang-Ta and the art of warfare.
However, the influence of foreign religions diluted this tradition, and thus, many stopped learning the indigenous martial art form, which once came handy in defending the kingdom.
As such, the efforts of MITTAL and other like-minded organisations towards preservation of this martial art form are highly laudable, he added.
Later, as part of the celebration, MITTAL presented its annual production.
