Road blocked in protest

Moirang, February 15 2024:
Protesting the abduction of three locals of Kwakta, Moirang and Saiton from the adjoining area of Phubala and Naranseina last night, Tiddim Road at Kwakta Terakhong portion was blocked from the early morning today.
The three persons were abducted by unknown miscreants last evening at around 6.30 and they have been identified as Tampakmayum Abdul Latif (50) of Kwakta Ward no 8 Khuman Thongkhong, Md Haji Alimuddin Moijing-mayum (50) of Saiton Awang Leikai and Mairembam Johnson of Moirang Mairembam Leikai.
Reportedly, the mobile phones of all the three persons have been switched off since last night.
The protesters, however, didn't stop essential service providers from passing the road.
Families of the three persons said that they don't have any idea why they were abducted and urged all concerned to release them on humanitarian ground.
Speaking to the media by the sideline of the protest, secretary of Jamiat-Ulama Bishnupur Sahid Maulana Alaoddin Qasmi said that most of the locals are daily wagers and they don't take sides in the ongoing conflict between Meiteis and Kukis.
Stating that a group of people have been intimidating the locals of Kwakta by taking advantage of the situation in Manipur, he added that some locals were abducted earlier too and they were released after paying ransom.
Saying that all the youth who enforced the road block protest endorse the movement to keep Manipur intact, he urged the Government to allow them to defend their villages.
He cautioned that the locals of Kwakta will not remain silent if they are subjected to furthermore intimidation and torture and urged all concerned to release the abducted trio.
He also said that they have lodged a complaint to local MLA and all relevant authorities to rescue the abducted persons.
