World Anthropology Post Congress kicks off

The three days World Anthropology Post Congress 2023, International Seminar on "Anthropology in Practice: Health, Culture and Security" kicked off today at the auditorium of Manipur University, Imphal on the occasion of World Anthropology Day.
World Anthropology Day is celebrated on the 3rd Thursday of February every year with the aim to educate people about the science of human behaviour, biology and how human societies function.
The programme was attended by Health & Family Welfare Minister, Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh; Prof N Rajmuhon Singh, Vice Chancellor, DM University; Prof K Saratchandra, president Anthropological Society of Manipur; Prof Vijoy S Sahay and Prof S Jibonkumar Singh as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh said that Health is not merely a concept but a reality of life.
"According to Anthropology, culture means what we do, what we have and what we perceive in society.
Culture is the total ways of life including all the objects and elements, rules and regulations, learned, shared and accepted by members of the society", he added.
The Minister asserted that for a peaceful and prosperous society or nation, the protection of life and property is utmost important.
"Security has different dimensions but food security and law and order are paramount for human survival and welfare", he added.
Highlighting that the development of a nation lies in the hands of citizens, the Minister said that human resources of the citizens, health status, way of life, peace and tranquillity defines a nation.
Dr Sapam Ranjan further shared that for the past 10 months, the State is facing tremendous issues such as homelessness, food security, law and order, violence, mental health & chains of concomitant problems and such seminars will help in designing, devising & intervening the hot current issues.
