Bishnupur, February 15 2024:
Bishnupur Akoiba Apunba Lup (BAAL) president L Devchand Singh has observed that at a time when the state facing serious crisis and many homeless staying in relief camps, people are wasting money on unnecessary expenditure.
Such extravagant spending needs to be stopped and money should instead be donated to support village volunteers (VV).
Addressing a press meet at its office on Thursday, L Devchand stated that people should realise that the state is in the midst of a conflict and they should limit their celebrations for weddings, 'Chura Karran', etc., to only religious rituals.
As there is no sign of conflict ending, spending money on decorations, loud speakers, cutting of cakes, photo sessions and holding parties after marriage ceremony should be done away with and the money donated to help village volunteers defending the state.
Devchand further said that weddings should end before 6 pm and not more than 10 vehicles used for escorting the marriage party as they cause traffic congestion, which has even led to demise of injured village volunteers being taken to hospital for treatment.
He also warned people indulging in drinking parties after marriage programme and said that they themselves should be be responsible for any unwanted incident.
Stating that liquor vendors should also down shutters by 6 pm, Devchand appealed to clubs, organisations, CSOs, meira paibi groups to extend their support regarding the matter.
