Imphal, March 13 2024:
Maintaining that the AFSPA-hit families are more affected by the present humanitarian crisis besieging the state, Extra-Judicial Execution Victim Families' Association (EEVFAM) has urged the government to end extrajudicial killing and ethnic violence in the state at the earliest.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday, EEVFAM secretary Edina Yaikhom lamented that over 300 people have been killed and many left injured due to the violence in the state which broke out on May 3 last year.
Moreover, as the crisis has hit families impacted by AFSPA the hardest, the state government should maximise effort to bring an end to all kinds of violence at the earliest.
While pointing out that several cases of extra judicial killings had happened in the past before the present crisis, the secretary stressed that AFSPA, which has been repealed from some parts of the valley, should not be re-imposed in but completely scrapped from the entire state.
The government should not remain silent and watch the crisis unfolding on the ground that it has not affected their families, Edina maintained.
