Dr Suraj shared that it was the 52nd procedure which has been successfully performed by his team and the procedure is done currently only at ILDS hospital in the Entire North East India.
"This procedure is a lifesaving procedure done in patients of liver cirrhosis with bleeding (Fundal varix) or splenic vein thrombosis with fundal varix who presents as vomiting of large amounts of blood and passing of black stools and mostly presents with Giddiness and low blood pressure and can lead to a quick death if not treated on an emergency basis", he added.
Dr Suraj continued that one of the ways to effectively treat this condition is by using a sophisticated instrument called endoscopic ultrasound, a special endoscope with an ultrasound probe.
"By using this equipment (Olympus ME-3) the fundal varix is localized and multiple coils (Nester embolization coils) are injected followed by cyanoacrylate glue through a 19G needle (Boston scientific) leading to instant solidification and stoppage of blood flow in the varix", he added.
Dr Suraj further mentioned that this is a one-time procedure with minimal risk to the patient.
