2 thrashed, threatened

One excavator (JCB) operator and another individual were threatened and beaten up mercilessly by four unidentified armed persons at around 1.30 pm yesterday.
Speaking to media persons at Mayang Imphal Bazar today, Mayang Imphal-Bishnupur Road Development Committee joint secretary Kh Binanta said that excavator operator Th Govindas of Thoubal Kiyam Siphai and Chongtham Shyamchandra of Mayang Imphal were mercilessly beaten up by four armed individuals who came in a white car (Creta) on the road leading to Toubul from Mayang Imphal.
The armed persons assaulted the two for not allowing them to overtake the excavator promptly, Binanta said.
He said that the armed persons opened fire just beside their legs before thrashing them black and blue.
Mayang Imphal Apunba Meira Paibi Lup secretary Th Rebika said that assaulting civilians by armed persons for no valid reasons is highly condemnable.
Asking the group concerned to come out with a clarification on yesterday's incident, she appealed to the Government to pull up all the culprits at the earliest and initiate legal actions against them.
