CBC organises voter education programme

Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Regional Office, Imphal organised a one-day Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) on Systematic Voter's Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) at Tousem Government High School, Tousem Khullen on Wednesday.
Speaking at the event aimed at educating and encouraging the voters to participate actively in the electoral process, School Management and Development Committee convenor P Sialak stressed the importance of understanding voting rights and urged voters to make informed decisions while exercising their franchise.
While guest of honour Haiduadang emphasised significance of education in building a strong community and urged voters to elect the right leaders for betterment of society, School administrator Ndatching Panme provided insights into ethical and informed voting practices, including the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and Voters Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (WPAT) systems.
CBC regional director, Imphal, Dr Engam Pame highlighted the constitutional right to vote and the role of voters in ensuring good governance.
He also announced the introduction of the "C-VIGIL: Citizens Be Vigilant" mobile application by the Election Commission of India to facilitate reporting on electoral malpractices.
The programme also included an on-the-spot quiz competition and distribution of prizes and certificates to winners.
Additionally, CBC, RO plans to conduct similar ICOPs on SVEEP in villages such as Tousem Khunou, New Mandeu, Old Mandeu, and Diege under Tousem subdivision, Tamenglong district.
In a separate outreach effort, CBC field office in Chandel organised a similar programme at Purum Chumbang village.
The event featured speeches by local dignitaries, including village chief K Donhra, village authority member K Donshu, and local teacher Y Neihal.
YK College Wangjing, head of English department associate professor Pukhrambam Somarendro, who is also the advisor of Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO) Kakching spoke as resource person.
CBC field officer Chandel Mathew SK Bengam elaborated on the democratic right and how election plays an important part in democracy while calling upon electors to exercise their rights wisely.
A quiz competition was also held followed by prize distribution and an awareness rally.
