Social Justice and Empowerment, minister Dr Virendra Kumar launched the camp for distribution of aids and assistive devices for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and senior citizens, through virtual mode, at the complex of the Social Welfare Department here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Social Welfare minister Heikham Dingo stressed the need for taking proper care of senior citizens and PwDs.
He continued that as part of PM Narendra Modi's vision for a developed India by 2047, various schemes have been taken up including for the Social Welfare Department as well.
In Manipur's context, around 836 aids and assistive devices and 4353 appliances would be provided to senior citizens and PwDs under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana and ADIP Scheme.
The appliances collectively cost around Rs 92,56,130, he informed, while lauding the government for its efforts to deliver benefits of the scheme to the beneficiaries amidst the prevailing conflict.
Similar programmes will be organised in other districts as well, he added.
Social Welfare director Ng Uttam said that beneficiaries for Thursday's camp were those who participated fully in an earlier assessment camp.
The timespan for aids and devices distributed is around three years, he informed.
Urging all concerned to attend assessment camps organised by the Department and ALIMCO in localities, the director urged the non-attendees not to be discouraged, adding that the materials are being distributed as per the guidelines.
He then appealed to ALIMCO to redesign the hearing aids taking the youth in mind, stating that the youth might not feel embarrassed to wear the hearing aid if it is designed in the form of a Bluetooth earpiece.
