Imphal, March 06 2024:
The Congress party leadership will meet in New Delhi on Thursday to determine the party's candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress Central Election Committee (CEC), mandated to select candidates for the polls, will hold its inaugural meeting at 6 pm on March 7, twitted AICC general secretary Jairam Ramesh on social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter) for communications.
The meeting will be attended by prominent leaders such as president Mal-likarjun Kharge as well as former presidents Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and other senior leaders, Ramesh twitted.
Even though the ruling BJP had announced first list of 195 candidatures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress party is yet to announce any list of candidature for the polls.
Meanwhile, preparations for selecting candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats in Manipur have started but there is no formal issuance of application form.
It is unsure if the MPCC recommended a panel list of aspirant candidates for both Inner and Outer Manipur parliamentary constituencies instead of serving invitation.
On the other-hand, the 71st foundation day celebration of Kakching Block Congress Committee (BCC) was held at its Kakching bazar office, on Wednesday.
The function was attended by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) secretary Kshetrimayum Kennedy, Kakching District Congress Committee president Md A Rahaman Cheshaba, Block Congress Committee, Kakching president Nongmaithem Ashok, Kakching Municipal Council former chairperson Moirangthem Inakhunbi, former vice chairperson Mayanglambam Uma Devi, caretaker councillor Mayanglambam Memcha Devi, BCC Kakching secretary Leishangthem Brojen, and Kakching Block Mahila Congress Committee president Moirangthem Pishak Devi, among others.
The function was marked by offering of floral tributes and observance of 2-minute silence as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives in the present crisis and to departed members of Kakching Block Congress Committee.
Those present on the occasion also prayed for restoration of peace and harmony in the state at the earliest.
