Imphal, January 04 2024:
While pointing out that Sagang Bazar located at the tri-junction of three districts is a vital business centre for over 20,000 people of surrounding villages inhabited by different communities, Komrem Union North East India (KRU, NEI) has appealed to communities involved in the current conflict to make Sagang a peace zone for all the communities of Manipur.
In a joint release, KRU, NEI president Lalkhomarig Serto and joint secretary Sumler Lucky Mangte stated that the continuous sit-in protest by Meira Paibis of the surrounding areas against setting up an army outpost at Sagang consequently resulting in stranding of the army personnel at Sagang bazar is impeding conduct of normal business transactions and subsequently affecting businessmen, vendors and public for the last two months.
Expressing that the Kom people are suffering the most though they are not involved in the on-going conflict between Meetei and Zomi/Kuki communities, the release appealed to authorities concerned to do the needful at the earliest in order to restore normalcy at Sagang bazar.
The union also exhorted all political parties in Manipur to jointly organise peace meetings and rallies for restoration of peace and harmony in the state.
