Imphal, January 04 2024:
The incumbent chief minister N Biren Singh, who was himself a minister in the previous government, is basically spitting on his own face by continuing to blame the previous government for the distressful situation besieging the state.
If he is unable to maintain law and order, he should not be against those who can, remarked CPI Marxist secretary Kshetrimayum Shanta, while cautioning that any unwanted consequences resulting from imposition of AFSPA should be the sole responsibility of.
the chief minister.
The CPI Marxist secretary made the statement during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday with regard to the submission of a complaint affidavit by CPI (M), Shiv Sena (UBT) and other like-minded political parties to the Commission of Inquiry on Manipur Violence, constituted under the union government.
Shanta continued that after JDU, INC and CPI, on behalf of 10 political parties in Manipur, submitted a complaint affidavit to the Commission of Inquiry (Manipur Violence) 2023, CPI (M) and Shiv Sena UBT also submitted another complaint affidavit.
While the 37-page complaint mentioned the CM's own admission that the May 3 conflict broke out due to intelligence failure, other proof/evidences and reports were also submitted to the Commission.
He said that around 200 people have died in the eight-month long conflict, over 5000 houses gutted and thousands of people displaced and forced to live in relief camps.
All of these have been due to the carelessness and negligence on the part of the chief minister, council of ministers and bureaucrat officers, he claimed.
Additionally, the chief minister, in his efforts to cover up his failures, has been blaming the previous government.
However, he seems to have forgotten that he used to be a minister in the previous government for over 15 years since 2002.The BJP has been in power at the centre for only 10 years and him (CM) a chief minister for the last seven years.
As such, there is nothing the CM cannot do, Shanta pointed out.
Shanta further said that during the previous government, the then CM Ibo-bi would lead the ministers including the current CM and from other political parties to go to Delhi and fight for the state.
Unfortunately, no such effort or invitation for an all political party delegation has been forthcoming from the current government.
It is even more condemnable of the CM to threaten those defending the state of imposing AFSPA and blame the same on the people when he himself had failed to maintain law and order in the first place.
If AFSPA is re-imposed in the state, the CM is the one who should be held responsible, the secretary stated.
Observing that the conflict in Manipur is now entering the ninth month, Shiv Sena UBT Manipur president Toijam Debananda, who also attended the press meet, questioned why the conflict is being allowed to continue for such a long time.
The government has not made any sincere efforts to truly restore peace and normalcy in the state, despite having the power and means to do so, he alleged.
Further questioning what concrete steps have the double-engine BJP government taken up to truly end the conflict in Manipur, he pointed out that the displaced people are yet to return to their respective homes.
There is no action taken up to stop illegal immigration till date or to complete the border fencing.
The failure of the government has resulted in the deterioration of law and order in the state, he asserted.
